Data management
We recognise that capturing high quality data is what wind monitoring all about! All the effort to install robust, hub height met masts, use good quality instrumentation, battle inclement weather and difficult ground conditions to put the system in the right location, is all to make sure that the numbers collected are as accurate as possible. Those numbers are very precious, which is why we treat them with the utmost care and have developed rigorous QA procedures for data management. Whether your monitoring system is installed in a location where data can be collected over the GSM phone network, or on a remote hillside with no phone signal, we can collect and manage your wind data to give you complete peace of mind.
Data collection via GSM modem is carried out twice weekly and data validation checks carried out to ensure the system is working correctly. While all our dataloggers now come with sufficient built-in memory to store more than a year of 10-minute average data, frequent checking ensures that any faults are detected quickly and appropriate measures can be taken to minimise data loss. As soon as it is collected, data is backed up to external web-based storage (encrypted to ensure security). In the event that a problem is detected, we can dispatch a technician to troubleshoot, usually within 48 hours. Data is collated into monthly files and sent to the client and/or consultant along with a report showing key wind statistics, data availability rates and summarising any other issues arising.
We can also manually collect data from flash storage modules at any agreed frequency. Data is checked on site using a laptop or display unit, to verify that the system is working properly. Once back in the office, manually collected data is treated in the same way as remotely collected i.e. backed up to external storage, collated into monthly data files and issued with the monthly data report.
